Can't download premium egyptian pack

[:1]

I played this game and I liked it, so I decided to buy the Egyptian premium civilization pack.

This is what I did:

In-game I clicked on the marketplace to buy the premium pack, it took me to a site where I put in my credit card info.

Then I bought 2000 credits, and then 500 more to afford it.

After that I returned to my game, but the premium pack is stuck in the download, and still is.

It says that I need the "games for windows live"-client, even though that's where I got it from in the first place..

I live in Norway, if that is relevant.

Here are some more details about the error:

"Download of item failed. Retry later.
Code: 8007042C

Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {6D18AD12-BDE3-4393-B311-099C346E6DF9} failed due to the following error: 8007042c The dependency service or group failed to start. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007042C)."

Oh, come on.

Can no one tell me what the hell is going on?

I just spent quite a bit of money on something that doesn't even work.

The "retry" download button does not react. Nothing happens at all when I press it.

And now, on top of all, my game is seriously FUBAR.

When I try to log on to my account in the game menu, it says "cannot log on" and I get disconnected.

I have tried reinstalling the game, but there are still alot of game files on the computer that I cannot find.

I would like to delete them, and start everything over from scratch.

It's 3am at Microsoft. They're sleeping...

There's 3 locations you can download from:

1. In Game

2. GFWL website

3. GFWL Launcher Software

Have you tried to download from the in game store?

|||How do you download from the GFWL website? It just leads to a download of the launcher!
|||

Yes, when I first got the idea to download the premium pack, I did so from the in-game store.

That didn't work well at all, and now my download just sits there saying "can't download item - download item failed. Retry later."

I'm sure this is a bug of some sort, but it's an expensive bug for me, so I just want to get the premium pack.

I have attempted uninstalling the game several times, but I never seem to remove all the files on my computer for this game.

The first time you downloaded AOEO, it took some time, right?

Well, now it's done in 2 seconds, which means that there are game files stored deep in my computer somewhere.

Ok, this "solution" has worked for others including me with that error..

Go to your Egyptian civilization and COMPLETE 1 quest.

Close the game

Open the game and go back into your Egyptian or Greek City

Open the Online store

Click "BUY" again

It should say "Download Again"

Click Download Again and it should work this time.

Ok, I tried that.. Nothing happened.

The retry download button is still unresponsive, and the in-game store says I need the "games for windows - client", even though that is where I bought it in the first place.

I'm getting quite frustrated at this.

I just want my expensive 2 MB file downloaded, so that I can play the premium pack.

An little update here.

Looks like windows update has the same problem, though with a slightly different error code.

I'm quite positve that if I choose to format my entire hard drive, things will start working again.

This is a very drastic step though, and I would appreciate if someone came along with a simpler solution.

How many have had this problem?

|||

Everything was working until recently, right?

Have you gotten a new router or internet service?

Wait a while beforeformattingpossibly a downed server or hub iscausingtrouble.

|||

When I download the game, everything worked.

I used the same router and settings as I have for the last 2-3 years.

The game worked just fine.

But my download keeps stating "you need games for windows client to download files".

But now I've seriously messed up my game though. While trying to fix these problems, I must have touched something delicate that the game relied on.

Now it won't even start up, and I'm seriously considering formatting.

Is the capital city and progress saved on my computer, or are they online?

|||

Your saved game data is on the server so if you uninstall and install everything again it will NOT effect your game play.

So there's some good news for you.

Go ahead and try removing the GFWL launcher and remove the game. I would strongly suggest restarting your computer between uninstall and install to make sure nothing old is left in memory.

Make your city, complete 1 quest then try to install the 6MB file again through the in game online store.

Let us know if that worked or not.
