seriously how do you ship a game and overlook the refinement of your chat program? i literally cannot send a whisper to my friend unless he messages me 1st and i click on his name
i tried /tell [gamertag], message
/whisper, message
/whisper message
/tell, message
/tell message
it's so frustrating trying to negotiate with someone that wants to buy something from you and they open trade with you, and they you can't write to them to negotiate a price unless THEY click on your name.
fix chat, or get an auction house, or quit sucking and fix chat AND create an auction house, hell make it a shop in one of the major cities or make it one of those stupid blueprints that will have to be sold for 50k to be in someone's city who you won't ever be able to find BECAUSE YOUR CHAT BLOWS.
fix your product, where are the standards?
|||oh also, it's pretty laughable that the bottom right icon that says "chat commands" don't work either.
/who - doesn't do what people expect it to do
/whisper - obviously doesn't work
even if you select the option you have and continue from where it auto populates the command you selected, that doesn't work. UGH i know this isn't supposed to be WoW but when half of your commands are written the same way you'd expect them to work in the similar fashion.
|||if this isn't a priority and isn't fixed by next patch i WILL go to a zoo and kill a War Elephant IRL because they are probably OP just like they are for Egy.|||sh4dow6unny wrote the following post at 09-01-2011 5:01 PM::O

You can actually click on the plus (+) sign at the left side of the screen, click on the globe icon next to your friend's gamertag and whisper him.
i tried /tell [gamertag], message
/whisper, message
/whisper message
/tell, message
/tell message
You almost have it. It's /tell [gamertag], message or /whisper [gamertag], message. Thing is, after you do:
/whisper dejavunl88,
After the comma ( , ) it will turn the chat into whisper mode, and direct the chat to the person before the comma. In this whisper mode you type the message and press enter.
/whisper [gamertag], messageMost players think they have to type the message right after the comma, but if you press [space] after comma it goes into whisper mode and you can whisper your friend.Hope this helps.ps. War Elephants don't live in zoos.

They are working on it, but fixing the bug which is causing people's computers to crash isprobablya higher priority.
Would you please go in to details of the problem with your chat?
|||just tried hitting space after the comma, doesn't work.
also the (+) sign @ the top left of the screen is for just friends, so that would require the random stranger that i want to negotiate a deal with to be my friend which will likely never be the case.
even if the "/whisper dumbchat, message" format worked, why would you implement "," why not just keep it the way most other games do it? (hate to point out WoW) but we all know alot of UI and features and features are similar to WoW, no point beating around the bush.. but why change fundamental elements to which most of the population would be accustomed to?
this is only the tip of the problematic chat ice-berg. Why do i have to make a whole different window or swap out of Trade window to interact with a party? or Certain "whisper conversations"?
chat as a whole needs an overhaul, lets not kid ourselves. hell be a copy of WoW chat, it works why fix it? why change it? you're not getting points for originality when a good % of your material is drawn from one of the most popular MMO's of all time.
|||There's a very large African Elephant about 5 blocks from my house at a private zoo.. Do you need directions? Just let me know when you're going so I can post it on Youtube of him owning you. :)
The BIGGEST confusion here is you have confused the who and whois command. Whois is NOT available to the public and the Who command is something completely different.
I lost count on how many different ways you can message a friend either ONLINE or OFFLINE.
You can click on their name in chat
You can right click on their name in chat
you can click on their name in your in-game friends list
you can click their name in the built in GFWL option
you can send them a message on windows live messenger
you can message them on MSN, hotmail and live.com
you can send them a message on xbox.com
you can send them a message on your Xbox 360
you can text message them since every person in the World has a cell phone growing out of their ears and fingers.
How many more options does a person need to make contact with someone in a game???
If the development team adds more contact options then people will complain there's too many options and it has become too complicated. Sounds like your best option is to attempt to take on the Elephant down the street from my house... My money is on the Elephant....
|||I have a chariot and a bow IRL, i'll get a horse and i'll own that elephant i'm not worried.
ok you pointed out alot of ways to message someone, but tell me this, when i advertise i want to sell something for 5000g and someone opens a trade with me and puts in 3000g, how do i message them? there is nothing i can click on.. you have about a billion ways to click on someone to communicate with them but you don't have a way deal with my scenario?
if the development team adds a simplified way to look @ someones name "bob" and the person who wants to communicate with "bob" only has to do "/w bob" i will find it hard to believe that anyone will complain. it doesn't take long, i've worked with game code, written mods it's a simple fix. don't be lazy.
|||1. click the HOME BUTTON
2. Messages >> NEW
3. Enter in username
4. Say what is on your mind.
5. Send.
6. Repeat and rinse as needed... I mean finish your conversation as needed...
Bill
PS - I've seen this Elephant up close.. My money is still on the Elephant even if you say you'll bring a Colt .45 Cal.
|||so i have to go through 5 steps instead of going with the traditional /w bob that's used on most games?
lame :(
also why is there a limitation on where i can link items? i can't link my coop partner what i got from my quest.. i can't link an item to someone who i'm giving advise to and saying "you should get this when you get this lvl"
that's another problem with chat, whats the point of that?
|||I think the best solution here is for them to remove the chataltogether... You remove the spam, cheaters, foul language, immature and ignorant people. problem solved. I think I'll make the proposal.
As for the steps... Those 5 steps will take less than 10 seconds. Took longer to type the steps than to use them. If you think that is lame and a limitation then I have bad news... The real World is going to eat you alive as things in the real World are much more difficult.
Wait until you have tonegotiate a mortgage.. :(
|||if you take me for some juvenile child that is just presenting suggestions and ways to improve a game that i enjoy playing, then that's childish. my suggestions weren't ignorant, a majority of your population is being frustrated with the chat that's in this game, i don't think you're oblivious but maybe i need to reconsider.
also i type @ 118 wpm, takes longer to click home, select send message, insert name , create message, send message. it's a matter of convenience it's not a limitation on gameplay, would just be a nice touch to refine certain things your client base complains about.
lastly i don't need a lecture on the real world, and i won't have a problem with a mortgage because only idiots buy homes in this type of economy. also i'm a nuclear pharmacist so if i chose to buy a home i won't have those problems.
i am sorry about your mortgage, i used to work for usaa insurance, i've dealt with more mortgage issues in my lifetime than many will in most.. (from a 3rd person perspective ofcourse)
