Using my television as my monitor, when I start the game the screen goes blue and I get the message Input Signal Out Of Range, usually meaning that the display mode the game is trying to run in isn't supported. When I change the resolution in the config file the game won't start, saying that the files may be corrupt. My desktop is in 1024x768 so I don't know why the game won't run in the same resolution. I've run dxdiag and here's what I could fit of the results, since my post is limited to 15k characters and the full report runs a little over 45k

What is the resolution your TV runs at? I know some TV's with VGA or SVGA inputs you can adjust the resolution. My thoughts are aiming more on the output used (composite, component, HDMI, Svideo VGA) and your computer picking up a "locked resolution" from your TV and changing the resolution and this would put it out of the games resolution spectrum.
My TV has the "VGA" connection and in the TV menu I have the option to lock a resolution or use the same resolution as the host device (laptop) but I don't know if this is a standard option for all TV's or just my brand.
|||My tv's native resolution is 1024x768 @ 60 Hz. It won't display anything at a higher refresh rate, 70/72/75/85 all give the same error of Input Signal Out Of Range.|||Also, it's connected via VGA, and has an Auto Adjust feature, which should adjust the picture when a different resolution is being used by the input, such as some games which I run in 800x600 or 1280x1024. I had this same issue when I installed Starcraft 2, but am able to change the resolution through the config file, which this game doesn't allow.
|||Also, just realized, the issue is most likely that the game is trying to run at 75 Hz, which my television won't display. Any ideas how to change the refresh rate, without the "your files may be corrupt" issue?
|||Change it in ATI Catalyst Control Center if your GPU is an ATI card. It's listed as "refresh rate". You don't need to change the configuration from AoE:O. I'm not sure what Nvidia has, so just find something similar if you're using Nvidia GPU's.
|||My screen won't display anything over 60 Hz, How can I get the game to run at 60 Hz through Catalyst?
|||If your screen doesn't support a refresh rate over 60 Hz, why don't you try decreasing the refresh rate instead? You can't get the game to run at 60 Hz through Catalyst. When you change the refresh rate, it will be applied to the screen in general, not on application level.
|||Everything is set at 60 Hz, I can check my tv's refresh rate and it's at 60 Hz now, but when I launch the game, the screen goes blue, gives the error and when I check the system info it says Resolution: 0x0 HSync: 60.1KHz VSync: 74.9 Hz, as opposed to normally showing Resolution 1024x768, HSync: 48.3 KHz, VSync: 59.9 Hz.
|||Any ideas? Anyone? Devs?
|||Not really a solution..but if you replace your television and use a monitor instead it would work. I really don't have suggestions other than that..
|||
I ran into the same issue and want to make sure others see the resolution. This thread resolved my refresh rate issues on my PC.
