can't play co-op with friend.

[:1]Tried to play co-op with my friend today. No dice as it consistently gave me the "connection failed" message. I checked the settings in the GFWL interface and for both of us it says our NAT type is open. Any ideas what can cause this and is there more information that I should divulge?|||

Having the same problem exactly. Very frustrating. I am trying to get support but they don;t really have any. I called MS Games and they said they have no info on this fame and that all support is through this website..... fun times. Sooooooo, I am going to try some different ideas and if i can get it to work I will let ya know!

Follow the instructions provided here under the section:

"What ports need to be open to run Age of Empires Online?"|||Yeah, I went and opened those ports before asking for help here. Directly from that page in fact. The problem unfortunately still persists.|||Have you opened all required ports for GFWL on both your software firewall and your router's firewall? Also do you have UPnP enabled on both Windows and your router (if available)?
|||Please let me know if you find a way to make this work, as I'm having the same problem. Even thought we both have Open NATs, it still won't let us connect =/|||

Yeah, I did open the ports on both the software and the router. UPnP should be enabled on both. So far though it appears that I have no success.

Have your friend do the same thing and see if it works.

|||okay so we both did that. He can connect to other random people just fine. I on the other hand am still not able to connect to him. I think it might be something I need to configure in my router.|||also, if it helps, I have a linksys WRT160nV3|||

Can you reply with the steps you've taken to solve this problem so far? Just want to check if you've done it correctly. I don't know how much you know about these things.

Okay, So first thing I did was open all thenecessaryports in the router and assigned each of the ports to the computers static IP. I checked to make sure UPnP was on and indeed it already was.

Second thing I did was go to the control panel, go to windows firewall and create new inbound rules for each port that was required to be open just like it told me on the support and FAQ page. Also made sure that the UPnP equivalent was on for the OS(I have Windows 7) and that was on as well.

Tried playing the game with him later, got no joy so i tried opening the ports in the comodo firewall software that is currently active in the computer. Still no love whatsoever.

|||I have got an answer to all your problems. all you need to do i remove your mate from your friends list and that should solve it.

Assuming your router acts like a firewall, you could disable your Windows firewall and Comodo firewall just to see if it's a software issue. And move forward from there.

If it still isn't working try it the other way around. Put your PC behind a DMZ in your router, but keep your Windows and Comodo firewall enabled and try the same thing.

I really don't know what else it could be as I can't troubleshoot this any further without being physically there :P

Hey dude, me and a freind last night had the very same problem, i did all of the above and spent well over 3hrs on this crap. this is a fault on there end "FACT".

We where able to CO-OP, by removing each other from our freinds list.

This probelm has nothing to do withNAT - Router - Firewall as i ruled all of them out last night,,,they should really look into this,
